Skirt Tutorial

E's teacher just had a baby girl so E wanted to make her baby a skirt.
I let her pick out the fabric and together we made her a little gift!
To start all you need is a 1/4 yard to 1 yard of fabric (depending on the length of your skirt), elastic, and we added a cordinating shirt!  We chose cotton fabric but this can be made with almost any kind.
Choose the length that you want the skirt to be.
We used the shirt as our guide because we didn't have a newborn to measure it to.

Using the whole width of the material (45 in) cut your
desired length like the above pic.
Like a long rectangle.
I don't like to have any raw edges so we surged the edges.
If you don't have a surger just zig zag the edges.  This prevents any fraying once the material is washed.
Fold your rectangle in half and sew the two sides together to form a side seam.
Now, hem your skirt and sew your elastic casing.
String your elastic throught the casing and sew it together.  Sew your casing closed and you are done!

We didn't stop there.  We added her name using my silhouette machine and freezer paper
E said that her teacher loved it!

The best thing about this skirt is that you can make it as simple or as detailed as you like.  I have seen pockets added, monograms, a second layer, ric rac, and the list goes on and on.  So easy and so fun.

Buttermilk Syrup

This morning, we got together with some friends for breakfast.  Along with the best french toast ever, I  found the best homemade syrup.
It is so yummy, I am sick because I ate so much!

Here is the recipe.
 1 cup butter
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk
Warm together at medium heat.  When it starts to boil, remove from heat and add 1 tsp vanilla and 1 tsp baking soda.  Warning the soda will make syrup rise and become frothy.  Use a big saucepan, so it will not spill over.
BEWARE: Syrup is very, very good, and very, addicting, and very, very fattening.
I think it is worth the splurge!
*Thanks Angie

Vacation (Part 3) - San Diego

One day of our trip (a few weeks ago) we headed to Sea World where we meet up with some of our friends, who live in San Diego.

We learned a lot about sea animals.
If you want (I didn't want to touch the fish) you can feed the animals.
It was so fun to watch.

BFF's
The kids loved the play area.  We loved the Dippin' Dots!

We loved the shows.
WOW that is close!

It was so fun to spend the day with our good friends!
We miss you guys!
After Sea World we headed to our favorite Mexican restaurant, Old Town Mexican Cafe.  Every time we go to San Diego we eat there.  It is so delish.
After dinner, we headed over to the Mormon Battalion Museum.  It was so cool.  Our girls loved it.
We met the cutest girls on our tour.  We wish we lived next door to them.  They entertained our girls while we visited with their parents.  This is a must if you are in the area.  They just redid the museum and it is awesome.

Fry Sauce

I didn't realize that fry sauce was only found in Utah until we went to
Florida a few years ago.  We wanted a snack so we hit the drive through at McDonald's for some fries (and, I'm sure an ice cream cone, too).  I asked the kid working the window, "can I please have some fry sauce?"  He looked at me really weird and asked, "you mean, ketchup?"  The Mr. just laughed and said,
"Stac, fry sauce is a Utah thing!"
So what is Utah fry sauce?...
-DELISH-
Equal parts ketchup and mayo.
Stir and enjoy.
I have found that BBQ sauce and mayo are good too.
My girls like ranch and ketchup.

Banner

I found a great deal on paper letters at the expo
(I can't remember who was selling them).  When I got home I wanted to
make something with them, so I made a banner.  I made this a few
weeks ago in hope that Spring would come soon!

I threaded a needle with embroidery floss, and
sewed through my letters like this.
There is no need for glue or tape
(that way if I need to use the letter again, I can).
Then I hung it over my back door!
I want to give 2 letter packages away to 2 of my followers.
Leave me a comment and tell me what you would do with the letters.
I will let you know our winners at the end of the week.

*YOU MUST BE A FOLLOWER TO PARTICIPATE*
*Winner's prize might be a different color*

Disneyland 2011

I finally found the best pics from our vacation.  We took over 600 pics.
That is why it has taken me so long to post about our trip.
So grab some hot cocoa (if you live in Utah) and enjoy.
As you already know, we stayed  two days in Las Vegas and then
we finally made it to DISNEYLAND!!!
We like to start Disneyland out by eating at Goofy's Kitchen.  It's a little pricey but worth every penny!  The food is wonderful, and the characters come right to your table.  It is a blast.  We have found that it is nice if you go when you don't have anything else to do that night.  We like to stay and enjoy the meal and the characters.  Our kids like to see all of them.
This is a pic (not a great pic) of their pizzas: cheese, mac and cheese, and PB&J!
One on one with Mulan and Minnie - sooo sweet!
Happy early birthday, E!
Watch out for little sister who steals your sprinkles when you turn your back!
Our duct tape stroller held up the whole time!!!
We like to find little treats throughout the day.
This one (a giant rice krispie treat topped with chocolate) can be found between
Splash Mountain (which was closed until May 27th - so sad) and
Pooh's Adventure.

When you get off Pirates, turn left and you will pass a few shops.  You will find an area that opens up to a courtyard with a staircase.  It's said that Walt himself used to live there.  It is so nice and peaceful.
Perfect for a photo shoot.
NEMO!

World of Color is AMAZING!   We loved it.  Did you know that you have to have a Fast Pass to see it?  Well you do and you have to go right when California Adventure opens.  We found that they actually let you in the park 30 min before it opens to obtain a Fast Pass.  Also, you'll want to get in line to get your spot 30 minutes before the time on your Fast Pass tells you to.  It is crazy but worth it.  We found that the bridge
overlooking the water is a perfect spot.

E's and my FAVORITE ride!!!  Love her.  We giggle during the whole ride.
I have taught her well!
Ooohhhh, don't these look yummy?
We found that this little treat is to die for!  It is a Dole whip.
It can be found next to the Enchanted Tiki Room!
While we were there, the world premiere for Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides was held.
I would not suggest going when it says that the park will be closed early due to an event.
It was crazy.
This was as close to Johnny that I will probably ever get!
M keeps telling everyone, "Minnie kiss me head cheek."
Then she makes the cutest kissing sound just like Minnie!

This is pretty funny - hope you like it!
Don't mind M with her binkie (we are getting rid of it soon).
She had no nap and it was either her B or her being whinny.  We chose the B!
Whew you made it through all of that!
Thanks so much for reading.
Check back next week to hear about a few other things we found along our trip!
Have a great weekend!
