How To Tie A Scarf

I don't know about you, but I love scarves.  While shopping with my friend, Jen K, she taught me the best way to tie a scarf.  I was going to do a tutorial on how to do it until I found this pic.

#5 is my favorite.

Bandana Dress

I am always looking for new things to make for my girls.  I found this darling dress made out of 2 bandanas and some ribbon.  Looks like this is a project for me!  It takes about 15 min, and the cost is around $3.

Headband Storage

I love headbands.

In fact, I have quite a collection.  Some I just love to look at and others I love to wear.  Either way I had to find a solution to my mess.  Check out how I organized my headbands.

I used two empty oat canisters.

First off, I super glued them together.  I glued the bottoms together so that I can use the open ends of the empty canisters for more storage.  Then I added my "favorite" duct tape to secure the glue. 

With some paper and ribbons I covered my canisters. 

I also decorated the top.

It doesn't look the best but it works! 

Add headbands!

I love that I can take off the lid to hide more headbands.  

Much better!

Another Pair of Flip Flops

I love flip flops.  In fact, I have a pretty mean flip flop tan line.  My one rule with flip flops is that they have to be comfortable.  I love my flip flops but when I found this pic on Pintrest I had to try them. 

If I hated them I was only out a few dollars!

I love them.  Super comfy.  I want to make a pair in every color. 

I went pretty conservative and didn't add the flower.

Running/Cycling Socks

After riding Little Red last week, I found the best socks at the post ride party. 

They are for running and biking.

I love that I don't have to buy 2 different pairs of socks!

Also great for tri's.

They had a "ride special" so I bought a some for me and

some for the Mr. (a small gift for watching the girls!)

I came home wore them, washed them, and wore them again. I found that these fit the same as the day I bought them.  Sometimes after washing socks they fit different.  The Mr. loves his {not pictured}, too.

Skirt Tutorial

E's teacher just had a baby girl so E wanted to make her baby a skirt.

I let her pick out the fabric and together we made her a little gift!

To start all you need is a 1/4 yard to 1 yard of fabric (depending on the length of your skirt), elastic, and we added a cordinating shirt!  We chose cotton fabric but this can be made with almost any kind.   

Choose the length that you want the skirt to be.  

We used the shirt as our guide because we didn't have a newborn to measure it to.

 

Using the whole width of the material (45 in) cut your
desired length like the above pic. 

Like a long rectangle.

I don't like to have any raw edges so we surged the edges.

If you don't have a surger just zig zag the edges.  This prevents any fraying once the material is washed. 

Fold your rectangle in half and sew the two sides together to form a side seam. 

Now, hem your skirt and sew your elastic casing. 

String your elastic throught the casing and sew it together.  Sew your casing closed and you are done!

We didn't stop there.  We added her name using my silhouette machine and freezer paper. 

E said that her teacher loved it!

The best thing about this skirt is that you can make it as simple or as detailed as you like.  I have seen pockets added, monograms, a second layer, ric rac, and the list goes on and on.  So easy and so fun.

Upcycled "Minnie" Skirt

A friend of mine gave us a huge bag of dresses.  We love hand-me-downs.

While trying on the dresses we found this one.  E didn't love it but

I loved the material...It was screaming "Minnie" skirt!

 First off I cut off the flowers at the bottom using the shape of the skirt.

Like this...

 After measuring the length that I wanted I cut off the top part of the skirt.

Like I did on the bottom.

 I then hemmed the bottom of the skirt.

 Next, I added wide elastic that fit E's waist measurement.
I pulled on the elastic as I sewed it so it gathered at the waist of the skirt.

 So easy and I loved how it turned out!

Look at those muscles!!!

I found this in Downtown Disney.  Isn't it so cute? 

Another project!

Hair Bows

A few weeks ago I found these darling hair bows at Forever21.

They were super inexpensive so I bought one in black and one in cream.  I got them home, tried them out, and realized I hated the bobby pin attachment

so I decided to change it out for an alligator clip. 

With a little bit of muscle power I was able to break the

bobby pin and remove it from the back of the bow.

I then hot glued an alligator clip to the back of it.

Much better!

More Freezer Paper Stenciling Shirts

Saturday is my first triathalon of the season.  I'm so excited, nervous and can't wait to get in and out of the water and back on dry land!  I am so addicted to my Silhouette and freezer paper right now.  Here are a few things I have

made in preperation for the big event...

On the "Wife" and "Mom" I used regular fabric pant then added glitter glue after it was dry (before I pulled off the freezer paper).  I have found that after trying a few different processes using glue and adding glitter, the actual glitter glue in a tube works better (and much easier) than this other process.

Got Nails?

While shopping at Ikea I found this cute tray.

It is small, sturdy, and easy to carry.  I didn't know what I was going to do with it

but I thought I could find something to put in it!

Being a mom of 2 little girls we like to paint our nails a lot!!!

We have quite a lot of suff/colors to choose from.  

The tray is perfect for our nail stuff. 

Here are my nail must-haves!

 

I don't know what this is called but you can get it at any beauty supply store for under $1.  It was fun to paint the plastic nails so that my girls can pick out the color of nail polish they want without them actually touching the polish!  When you need to repaint the plastic nail all you do is remove it with nail polish remover then paint it again.  So fun!

Sally Hanson Kwik Off nail polish remover.  It is seriously the best invention ever. 

It is a big sponge filled with polish remover. 

All you do is put your hand in the container and move it around. 

It takes the polish right off!

And, of course, you need nail clippers, polish, files, a little nail art, and you are set.
